Air China is the flag carrier of China with its main operating base at Beijing Capital International Airport. The airline flies to over 200 destinations both within China and internationally including Dubai International Airport with its vast fleet of close to 400 aircraft. Founded in 1988, Air China carries over 50 million passengers a year and has additional hubs at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Shanghai Pu Dong International Airport. The airline is part of the Star Alliance and has its own frequent flyer program - PhoenixMiles.

How to Check in

Passengers flying with Air China are able to check-in the old fashioned way at the airport or from the comfort of your computer online. However, online check-ins are not currently available on international flights leaving China. For those checking in at the airport, check-in counters close 30 minutes before domestic flights and one hour before international flights. During the online check-in process passengers are able to select a preferred seat or have one allocated automatically at the airport. Select airports also support self-service check-ins which can be done in person at the airport.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Air China permits passengers to bring baggage to check-in free of charge, although specific allowances depend upon your cabin class. Those in Economy Class are able to bring 20kg, while in Business Class you can bring 30kg and First Class are allowed up to 40kg. Be advised that international regulations stipulate that no single item of baggage can exceed 32kg. Passengers wishing to bring excess baggage will be able to do so, but fees vary according to your flight so be sure to check directly with the airline for accurate information.


Air China flights offer a standard Economy Class in addition to Business and First Class seats. Those flying in Economy Class on Air China flights are afforded ample legroom with a seat pitch of 31-33 inches, while in Business Class travelers can look forward to a seat pitch of 58-60 inches. In First Class you can stretch out to your heart’s content with a generous seat pitch of 80-83 inches. Passengers are able to select a preferred seat during the online check-in process or have one automatically allocated at the airport.
