Arriving In Johannesburg
O. R. Tambo International Airport is Johannesburg’s main airport and also the busiest airport in South Africa consisting of six passenger terminals. In addition to this, the city is also served by the smaller Lanseria International Airport, a privately owned airport primarily handling domestic flights. If you are flying to Johannesburg from the UAE, the only airport available to land at is O. R. Tambo International Airport. The airport is situated around 20 km from Johannesburg and is linked to the city by rail, with the journey taking around 25 minutes.
If you are traveling from the UAE you can fly out of either of Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Those coming from Dubai will be departing from Dubai International Airport, while Abu Dhabi International Airport also handles flights to Johannesburg. From Dubai you can catch flights with Emirates, and those coming from Abu Dhabi can travel with Etihad Airways.

Johannesburg Travel Information
Although some nationals are able to travel to South Africa without needing a visa, UAE nationals will have to apply for a visa first before traveling. Remember that Johannesburg is two hours behind the UAE so don’t forget to set your clocks to local time as soon as you have arrived. The seasons in Johannesburg are different to the UAE with summer beginning around November and ending in February with average highs of around 25 degrees. Although the city does have a limited public transport system, you may be better off renting a car at Johannesburg airport if you are unfamiliar with local transport networks.
