SriLankan Airlines is the flag carrier of Sri Lanka and a member of the Oneworld airline alliance. From its main hub at Colombo Bandaranayake International Airport, SriLankan Airways operates flights to over 40 destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Established in 1947 under the name Air Ceylon, the airline was taken over the Sri Lankan government and Emirates and rebranded in 1998. How to Check In

Those flying with SriLankan Airlines are able to check-in online or at the airport. The online check-in service is available from 48 hours up to 2 hours before flights, or you can simply turn up at a SriLankan Airlines check-in counter at the airport. The airline advise passengers to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before scheduled flight times and check-in counters close an hour before flights.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Passengers flying with SriLankan Airlines are allowed to check-in baggage as part of the ticket price, although specific allowances will depend on your cabin class. Those flying in Economy are permitted to check-in up to 30kg of baggage, while those in Business Class are entitled to a generous 40kg allowance. Passengers should be advised that no single item of baggage can exceed 32kg in order to comply with international regulations. All passengers are also entitled to bring one item of hand baggage on board the flight - Economy travelers are allowed one item no heavier than 7kg, while Business Class passengers can bring two items. In addition to this, one personal item such as a handbag or camera are allowed on board.


SriLankan Airlines flights offer a standard Economy Class in addition to a premium Business Class. Those sitting in Economy can enjoy ample legroom with a seat pitch of 31-32 inches, while Business Class travelers can stretch out in comfort with a seat pitch of 77-79 inches and flat-bed seats. All passengers can enjoy complimentary food and drink on board flights. As well as a diverse menu of food from around the globe, those with special dietary needs will find the airline cater well.
