Dubai airports

Dubai International Airport is located just 2.5 miles (4km) southeast of Dubai city centre. The journey time by car and taxi is around ten minutes depending on traffic. There is a Metro link which runs frequently between the airport and Dubai city center from Terminals 1 and 3. The journey time to the city center is between 10 and 20 minutes. A bus service runs to the city from stations opposite Terminals 1 and 2. Buses C1, 11, 15, 33 and 44 depart from Terminal 1 while bus 2 leaves from Terminal 2.

Dubai's second airport is Al Maktoum International Airport, located 37km southwest of the city.

When to go to Dubai

Any time of year is excellent for visiting Dubai although those who want to enjoy fun in the sand dunes of the desert, desert treks or camping with the Bedouin should avoid the blazing summer temperatures and come in winter. Sports fans will want to see the Rugby Sevens in December or perhaps the Tennis Championships in February. For shopaholics, January is the must-visit time of year with as Dubai plays host to a vast and jaw-dropping Shopping Festival. For runners who can stand the heat, the Dubai Marathon takes place in January.

What to see and do in Dubai

There is no doubt that Dubai is a millionaire’s playground however it is also accessible to us mere mortals too. While you may not be able to afford a stay in the 7 star Burj Al Arab hotel or to buy a new house on ‘the Palm’ or ‘the World’ islands, there are still mega malls, glitzy bars and restaurants, a wonderful historic old quarter complete with 17th century British fort and bustling Arabian bazaars and spice souks to soak up. Eating is cheap and delicious, the shopping is plentiful and the beaches boast beautiful white sandy beaches and bath warm waters. For those with a sense of adventure, nothing can beat a camel ride or a night of Bedoiun camping under the infinite stars in the awesome surrounding and breath-taking desert.
