Where to stay in Geneva

Despite a reputation as a world-class city of wealth and commercial acumen, Geneva is a remarkable cool, fun and easy place for a vacation or business visit.

The Swiss city’s famous fountain on Lake Geneva – the biggest lake in Western Europe – can be seen from the air as you fly in to the city’s airport. The pulsating flume of water spouting some 140m into the sky is an equally impressive site from the ground with many a selfie taken from the Pont du Mont-Blanc and the Promenade du Lac or from the deck of the many boats that cross the waters every day.

Geneva’s old town (Vieille-Ville) is the largest historic town in the country with St Peter's Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre) the obvious attraction. The surrounding streets are charming with an assortment of cafes and restaurants, while a climb to the top of the tower will give yet another memorable photo of Geneva. Other places worth visiting are the Palais des Nations, European seat of the United Nations, and the Plaine de Plainpalais, home to one of the country’s biggest flea markets.

A network of trams, buses, and trolley buses are all available to help visitors and residents get around the city with ease, while multi-day public transport passes also include discounts for local attractions. If you plan to venture out of the city, you could consider renting a car in Geneva.

One of Switzerland's great cities. Beautiful location on the lake. Expensive as all hell, but not hard to see why. Enjoy!
