Cairo Airport

Cairo International Airport (CAI) is located just over 20 km from Cairo in Heliopolis. It takes approximately 30 minutes by car or taxi, with taxis found at all hours of the day outside each passenger terminal. Public buses run to a number of destinations in the city taking from between 35 and 60 minutes. A shuttle bus service connects the airport with Heliopolis and central Cairo in 45 minutes and operates at half-hourly intervals. Car rental in Cairo is also available.

When to go to Cairo

Cairo is a hot and sunny destination making it ideal for visiting at any time of year. The weather gets rather hot in the summer with average highs of around 35 degrees in July, while temperatures cool down significantly during the winter period. Those that want to experience and extra dose of art and culture should visit in November for the international film festival.

The best time to get a cheap flight deal to Cairo is probably from March to April and from October to November. Temperatures are more comfortable, there are fewer crowds and hotels and flights are cheaper. Winter is the most popular time of year as tourists rush to escape the winter chill. December and February are peak times.

What’s the weather like in Cairo?

Spring, from March to April and autumn, from September to October have the most comfortable temperatures up to reach 30°C (86°F). During summer (June-August) it can soar high above these temperatures making it unpleasantly hot for many visitors not used to the heat. Winter (December and January) is cool, with temperatures around 20°C (68°F) however this is when Ramadan takes place meaning many eateries close during the day and some bars for the entire month.
