Abeid Amani Karume International Airport is the primary airport serving Zanzibar situated only 5 km from the capital Zanzibar City. The airport is made up of two passenger terminals which includes the brand-new Terminal 2 set to become operational imminently (as of July 2019). The airport itself offers all of the essential facilities and services you would need although options are rather limited. However, there are a couple of cafés and eateries for hungry travelers. Upon arriving at the airport, the easiest way to reach your destination is by taxi just outside of the arrivals hall. Alternatively, many hotels and resorts will provide their own airport transfer services so it is worth getting in touch to arrange this. Car rental is also an option.
Airport Information - Departing
Julius Nyerere International Airport is Tanzania’s busiest airport situated around 12 km from the center of Dar Es Salaam. The airport is made up of three passenger terminals, with the new Terminal 3 opening up very soon and reserved for international flights. Currently Terminal 2 handles most operations at the airport, while Terminal 1 is used primarily for private flights. All the basics can be found at the airport including a few eateries as well as duty-free and souvenir shopping. You will also be able to benefit from free Wi-Fi access at the airport. Although there are no bus services that go direct to the airport, there are local bus stops within walking distance if you don’t want to pay for a taxi.
