Air Malta

Air Malta is the flag carrier of Malta operating from its main hub at Malta International Airport. The airline's headquarters are in the airport and it currently flies to 37 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. The airline was founded in 1973 and began to thrive after the inauguration of Malta International Airport in 1992. As well as having codeshare agreements with a host of leading airlines from around the globe, Air Malta offer two separate frequent flyer programs - KMiles and Flypass - for loyal passengers.

How to Check in

Checking in to Air Malta flights is possible either online, by mobile or at the airport. Those checking in online or by mobile can do so from 24 hours up to 1 hour before flights, although this service is only available in select airports in Europe. If choosing to check-in at the airport, be advised that Air Malta check-in kiosks open at least 2 hours before flights and close 45 minutes before. Passengers checking in online can check-in baggage in advance and drop off bags at a designated drop-off point at the airport.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Air Malta allows passengers to bring baggage to check-in as part of the fare, although how much you are allowed will depend on your fare. Those flying in Economy Class are entitled to check-in up to 20kg of baggage, while in Business Class this is increased to two pieces up to 20kg each except for Business Anytime fares which allow two pieces up to 32kg each. Those wishing to bring extra baggage are able to purchase additional allowances online up to 4 hours before flights - the rate for baggage varies according to your country of origin. Passengers are also allowed to bring one item of hand baggage on board flights - Economy passengers are permitted up to 10kg and Business travelers can bring up to 15kg on board.


Air Malta flights offer a standard Economy Class alongside a premium Business Class for those who like to fly in luxury. In Economy passengers are afforded spacious legroom with a seat pitch of 32 inches, while those in Business Class can look forward to slightly more with a seat pitch of 34 inches. It is possible to select a preferred seat before your flight which will be free of charge for those with a Spoil Yourself or Business Class fare. Economy passengers can purchase a preferred seat for between 45-55AED, while extra legroom seats cost slightly more at 78AED. Premium seats are also available at a price of 115AED*.
