The city of Jeddah is Saudi Arabia’s second-largest and a busy commercial center offering a wide selection of bustling markets, restaurants and cafes. Situated along the Red Sea, one of the best places in Jeddah is the Corniche which stretches nearly 30km along the coast and offers many beautiful beaches and amenities. Those interested in the heritage of the city won’t want to miss out on a visit to al-Balad, the old town of Jeddah. Here there are many old souqs to lose yourself in, while the old town is also home to many of the city’s most interesting historical buildings.

There are flights from Dubai International Airport with Emirates, flydubai, Flynas and Saudia, while travelers coming from Abu Dhabi International Airport can fly with Etihad Airways, Flynas and Saudia. Additionally, there are flights from Sharjah Airport to Jeddah with Air Arabia and Flynas and from Ras al Khaimah Airport with Air Arabia. King Abdulaziz International Airport has three terminals, one of which is dedicated to Hajj pilgrims.

Almost all citizens will need a visa to enter Saudi Arabia except those from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) which includes nationals from the UAE. However, the country is aiming to implement a tourist visa scheme in the near future to encourage visitors. If you are not a national of a GCC country you will need to apply for a visa before traveling - make your application well in advance just to stay on the safe side. The currency used in Saudi Arabia is the Saudi Riyal which can easily be obtained at a currency exchange before flying into the country.
