What to see and do in Mumbai
Mumbai is a vast, chaotic and colorful city with noisy traffic and cattle strewn roads. This overcrowded city is home to bold, brash Bollywood movies and is the fashion capital of India. Endlessly fascinating, there is much to explore in Mumbai. Glistening skyscrapers tower over ramshackle dwellings and dusty side roads, ancient bazaars and sprawling slums. Visitors can marvel at the colonial and art deco architecture and traditional temples, mosques and palaces. Mumbai is also the gateway to the most famous palace of them all, the Taj Mahal. Trendy bars and restaurants sit back to back with street food stalls and small local eateries while the city’s museums, galleries and peaceful parks are all places to get away from the frenetic activity of city life. Armani and Hermes are just a few of the designer shops that adorn Mumbai’s street if you prefer over the counter chic to haggling for bargains. Mumbai is an explosion of Indian culture, sound and scent that can take a few days to adjust to, but the experience is well worth it.
