London is served by five major airports: London Heathrow, London Stansted, London Gatwick, London Luton and London City

Heathrow

Heathrow Airport is 15 miles from the center of London, has five terminals and excellent transport links into London. It is linked to the Underground's Piccadilly Line into central London with trains running every 4 to 9 minutes. The average journey time is 45 to 65 minutes. The Heathrow Express is the fastest train service running from Heathrow Airport into central London operating 7 days a week and taking just 15 minutes.

Stansted

Stansted Airport is 38 miles from the center of London and has excellent transport links to the city. It can be reached by car in just over an hour. The Stansted Express is the fastest train service running from Stansted Airport into central London running 7 days a week into Liverpool Street train and Tube station taking around 47 minutes.

Gatwick

Gatwick Airport is 28 miles from London and can be reached by car in just over an hour. The Gatwick Express is the fastest train service running from Gatwick Airport into central London. It operates 7 days a week into London Victoria train and Tube station taking around 30 minutes.

Luton

Luton Airport is 32 miles from central London and can be reached by car in just over an hour. First Capital Connect operates the fastest train service running from Luton Airport Parkway into five central London stations - St Pancras International, Farringdon, Blackfriars, City Thameslink and London Bridge. The airport runs a free shuttle bus service between the terminal and Luton Airport Parkway station. The journey time is 30 to 60 minutes. The Luton and District 757 Greenline coach runs a regular express service from Luton Airport into central London taking 90 minutes

City

London City Airport is just 10 miles from central London and can be reached by car in 30 to 40 minutes. The Docklands Light Railway directly connects the London City Airport with Stratford International (for the Olympic site) and Bank Tube station (for central London) where you can change on to Waterloo and City, Northern, Central, District and Circle lines on the Underground. The DLR station is 50 meters from the main terminal and is clearly signposted. The journey time is around 20 to 30 minutes.

When to go to London

London is an incredible city with so much to see and do all year round. However, summer is the busiest time of the year and sees the most tourists thanks to the increase in sunshine, outdoor markets, festivals, concerts, beer gardens, canal-side drinking and Wimbledon. For cheaper flights to London is it best to travel in the spring (late March to early May) when the weather should be bright and mild and the parks are lush, green and blooming. Autumn is another cheaper time of year to visit with fewer tourists. Late August to mid-September is ideal. Note that December is another popular time for visitors to head to London with the Christmas and New Year festivities that take place.

What’s the weather like in London?

London has a temperate oceanic climate, with regular but generally light rain throughout the year. Summer temperatures vary greatly but can occasionally rise to around 33-35°C. Winters are variable and can see rain and snow as well as occasional freezing temperatures, but they rarely drop below 0˚C. Spring and autumn are often mild but can bring with them showers.
