Avianca is the flag carrier of Colombia based in Bogota, the capital of the country. With its primary operating hub at El Dorado International Airport in the capital, Avianca flies to over 100 destinations both domestic and international across the Americas and Europe. The airline is the second oldest in the world and was founded in 1919 under the name of SCADTA before rebranding in 1940. Avianca is the second largest airline in Latin America and owns a number of subsidiary airlines, while it also recently became a member of Star Alliance in 2012.

Passengers flying with Avianca are able to check-in online from the convenience of your own home, or alternatively you can do things the old fashioned way by checking in at the airport. Baggage Allowances and Fees

All passengers on board Avianca flights are entitled to bring baggage to check-in, although specific allowances vary according to your destination. For all flights within Latin America, passengers in Economy Class are allowed to bring one item up to 23kg. Members of the LifeMiles and Star Alliance programs are entitled to bring additional baggage to check-in. For European flights, Economy travelers can check-in two pieces up to 23kg each, while those in Business Class can bring two pieces up to 32kg each. Passengers are also allowed to bring hand baggage on board flights no heavier than 10kg.


Avianca flights offer a standard Economy Class alongside Business Class seating for those looking for a premium flying experience. Travelers in Economy can enjoy standard legroom with a seat pitch of 30-34 inches, while Business Class passengers can stretch out with a seat pitch of 56-72 inches on widebody jets and 38 inches on narrowbody jets. During the online check-in process, travelers are able to select a preferred seat at no additional charge.
