AirBaltic is the flag carrier of Latvia with its headquarters and main operating hub at Riga International Airport in the country’s capital. As a popular low-cost airline, AirBaltic provides flights to 60 destinations mostly in Europe and has codeshare agreements with many leading airlines including Etihad Airways. AirBaltic also have additional operating hubs at Tallinn, Estonia and Vilnius, Lithuania respectively. Founded in 1995 as a joint venture between the Latvian government and Scandinavian Airlines, AirBaltic is now owned by the government of Latvia.

How to Check in

Travelers on AirBaltic flights are able to check-in online or by mobile, or alternatively you can do things the traditional way by checking in at the airport for a small surcharge. The online check-in service opens 5 days before flights, except on codeshare flights which open 24 hours before. Be advised that the online and mobile check-in option is only available at select airports, so be sure to check with the airline if your flight is eligible. Checking in at the airport incurs a fee of around 120AED*, while flights out of Riga, Stockholm Arianda and Copenhagen offer self-service check-in kiosks to skip the queues.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Passengers with a basic fare will need to pay an additional fee to check-in baggage, although those with a Premium or Business ticket are entitled to free checked baggage. Premium travelers can check-in one bag up to 20kg, while Business Class passengers are entitled to bring two bags no heavier than 40kg in total. Basic passengers will need to pay per bag, with prices starting at around 80AED* per bag each way. The cheapest rates are offered during the booking process, as prices are raised to 140AED* per bag if purchasing baggage after you have already booked and 155AED* at the airport. Additionally, Basic and Premium passengers can bring one item of hand baggage no heavier than 8kg, while Business travelers are able to bring two items on board.


AirBaltic flights offer a Basic Class alongside Premium and Business tickets which come with additional perks. Basic passengers will need to pay a small charge of 8AED* to select a seat, while this privilege is free for Premium and Business travelers.

On Board Service

Those flying in Economy have the choice to preorder a meal up to 24 hours in advance of flights, with prices starting at 27AED*. Those flying in Business Class can look forward to complimentary meals and drinks and can request special meals up to 24 hours in advance of flights.

Booking Fees

There are no hidden charges or fees when booking flights with AirBaltic. However, booking tickets at an airport ticket office will incur an additional charge of around 40AED* per passenger.
