There are a few options for travellers flying from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro. If you are departing from Sao Paulo via Guarulhos International Airport, there are three airlines to choose from - Avianca Brazil Airlines, Gol Transportes Aereos and LATAM Brasil all fly to Galeao International Airport, Rio de Janeiro's main airport. If you are departing from Sao Paulo via Guarulhos International Airport to Santos Dumont Airport, the second major airport in Rio, you can fly Azul Brazilian Airlines and Gol Transportes Aereos. Alternatively, if you are flying out of Sao Paulo Congonhas Airport you can travel to either of Rio de Janeiro’s main airports with Avianca Brazil, Gol Transportes Aereros and LATAM Brasil.

Airport Information - Arriving
Galeao International Airport is the main airport in Rio de Janeiro and has two passenger terminals. If you need to travel between terminals they are connected together so you don’t have a long journey on your hands. At the airport there are many amenities and services open for travelers so you won’t be short on things to do. In addition to its many shops and duty free shopping, you can grab a bite to eat or a quick drink at one of many restaurants and cafes available.
The second airport in Rio de Janeiro is Santos Dumont Airport which serves around 9 million passengers a year. Although the airport is a lot smaller compared to Galeao International Airport it still offers all of the amenities and services you would need including a few different places to eat and drink before flying out.
Airport Information - Departing
The primary airport serving Sao Paulo is Guarulhos International Airport which handles around 39 million travelers a year. The airport has three passenger terminals, the newest of which – Terminal 3 – is dedicated to international flights. As a large airport you will find a wide selection of amenities and facilities such as shops, restaurants and cafes to have a good time while waiting for your flight.
Sao Paulo Congonhas Airport is a single passenger terminal and mostly operates domestic and regional flights. While not quite offering as many of the amenities available at Guarulhos International Airport, Sao Paulo Congonhas Airport still offers a few places to eat and drink as well as a selection of shops. You can also enjoy free Wi-Fi at the airport to stay connected, while the Advantage VIP Lounge is the ideal place to wait for flights in supreme comfort.
What to Expect in Rio de Janeiro
