Norwegian is the third largest low cost carrier in Europe, based in Oslo, in Norway. This low-cost airline was founded in 1993 and now has bases in Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim, Warsaw, Stockholm and Rygge. Norwegian is the third largest low-cost carrier in Europe with about 5,500 employees, flying over 400 routes to more than 130 destinations in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Thailand, the Caribbean and the USA as well as a charter service to remoter less sought after destinations.

How to Check In

You can check in online from 24 hours and up to 2 hours before departure or at the airport at the counter or using the fast track kiosks, from 2 hours before departure of domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. Check-in and bag drop close 30 minutes prior to departure of Nordic flights and 45 minutes prior to take off of international destinations. You can print your boarding pass online and at the fast track kiosks meaning you only have to take your bag to the ‘bag drop’ area prior to flying or go straight to the gate if you have no checked bags.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

The standard hand baggage allowance on a LowFare or LowFare+, Premium flight is 10 kg and a size of 55 x 40 x 23 cm. For Flex and PremiumFlex it is 15 kg and a size of 55 x 40 x 23 cm. One smaller personal item is also allowed for example a handbag or laptop bag but it must fit under the seat in front of you. For checked baggage all low fare customers must pay to add a bag. LowFare+ and Flex customers have an allowance of 20 kg for domestic flights. LowFare have no allowance for long haul flights, while LowFare+ and Flex have 20 kg and Premium customers have an allocation of 40 kg. The cost for Low Fare passengers is £20 per bag per leg of the journey for domestic flights and £40 per bag for international flights. Excess baggage is charged at £9 per kg per leg of the journey.


The cost to reserve a seat for LowFare tickets is £7 - £16 per person, each way and £25 per person, each way for international long haul. All other ticket holders can choose seats for free.

Booking Fees

There are a number of charges with Norwegian. These includes a service charge for phone and airport bookings of £15, each way, a credit card surcharge of 1.99% of the total purchase price (use a debit card instead which is free) and a charge of $7 per person for connecting flights, per leg (or £15 if connecting via London Gatwick). Light meals, snacks and drinks are available for purchase on board most flights and are not included in the ticket price.
