Germanwings is a German airline currently undergoing the process of merging with Eurowings airline but is still operating its own flight routes under the brand name of Eurowings. Germanwings was formed in 1997 and flies to over 80 destinations with a fleet of 59 aircraft and is known as a reliable low-cost airline. Since 2015 the airline has been merging with Eurowings, another German low-cost airline and also a fully owned subsidiary of Lufthansa.

How to Check in

Travelers flying with Germanwings are able to check-in to flights online or do things the old fashioned way by checking in at the airport. Those opting to check-in online are able to do so from 72 hours before scheduled flight departure times. Passengers should be advised that online check-ins are available on all short and medium-haul routes but only on select long-haul flights. Travelers are also able to check-in by mobile and receive a mobile or printable boarding pass at your convenience. Alternatively, self-service check-in kiosks are available at select airports, or you can simply check-in the usual way at an airport counter.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Passengers are able to check-in baggage on Germanwings flights, although how much you are allowed free of charge depends on your fare. Those with a Smart fare are entitled to check-in one bag up to 23kg, while Best fare passengers are allowed two bags up to 23kg each. Passengers with a Basic fare will need to pay a fee of 35-115AED* online for one bag up to 23kg, while a second bag can be purchased for 290-580AED* for those with a Smart or Basic fare. In addition to this, travelers are also permitted to bring hand baggage on board - Basic and Smart passengers are allowed one item up to 8kg, while Best passengers can bring two items up to 8kg. All passengers are entitled to bring an additional personal item such a briefcase or handbag free of charge on board flights.
