Singapore Changi Airport, often shortened to Changi Airport, is Singapore’s main airport situated around 17 km from Singapore’s downtown district. The airport handles over 62 million passengers every year and has consistently been voted as the world’s best airport in recent years. The airport is one of the busiest in Asia and handles a wide variety of flights including direct flights to and from the UAE.

Terminals at Singapore Changi Airport

Singapore Changi Airport currently has four operational passenger terminals, with plans for an additional terminal to be added to the airport by 2030. Terminal 1 was originally opened in 1981 and has recently benefited from an extensive renovation project to improve its facilities. Terminal 2 was opened up in 1990 and is located on the eastern side of the airport, whilst Terminal 3 was inaugurated in 2008 and is known for its unique architecture. The newest terminal at the airport is Terminal 4 which opened up in October 2017

Getting between terminals is quick and easy with the free Skytrain service available at the airport, with the journey time taking only around 4 minutes. There is also a free shuttle bus service running from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 and from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4. It is also possible to walk from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 as the buildings are connected, with the journey taking only 5 minutes.

Facilities at Singapore Changi Airport

Singapore Changi Airport is renowned as one of the world’s finest airports and boasts a wealth of amenities and facilities for travelers. There are a wide selection of places to eat and drink at the airport ranging from simple fast food outlets to high-end restaurants and everything in between. There are also a number of bars and pubs open at the airport as well as lounge areas showcasing live music regularly.

The airport is home to a large range of shops including many leading designers brands as well as extensive duty-free shopping. Each of the terminals boast many different shops, while the airport as a whole is home to over 350 different stores. There are many more facilities at the airport including an Entertainment Deck and Family Zone in Terminal 2, indoor gardens in all terminals including a famous Butterfly Garden in Terminal 3 and salon and spa services available in each terminal.

A large number of airport lounges are available in each terminal providing comfortable amenities. Many of these lounges are open to all passengers for an additional fee. The airport makes many provisions for disabled passengers including complimentary wheelchair access. Additional facilities include free Wi-Fi available throughout the airport, luggage storage, pharmacies and dedicated rest areas in each terminal.

Singapore Changi Airport Travel Information

Singapore Changi Airport benefits from extensive transportation links including a number of public transport networks. A train service runs from the airport to Tanah Merah station in the center of Singapore, departing from Terminal 2 and 3. An airport shuttle bus travels to most of the hotels in the downtown area and leaves every 15-30 minutes. There are also multiple bus routes which run to and from the airport to many areas across Singapore and are generally cheaper compared to other modes of transport.

Taxis are available outside the arrivals hall of each terminal and operate on a metered basis, taking around 30 minutes to reach central Singapore. Alternatively, it is also possible to arrange a private taxi or limousine service at the dedicated kiosks in the arrivals hall of each terminal.

Vehicle owners are able to park their car at one of five car parks located throughout the airport offering both short- and long-term parking. Alternatively, travelers looking for their own vehicle during their stay can visit one of the many leading car rental companies operating in the arrivals halls of each terminal.
