Malaysia Airlines is the flag carrier of Malaysia, operating out of its main hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The airline made its inaugural flight in 1947 and now flies to over 50 destinations in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, North America and Europe. The airline is known as one of the prominent flyers of the ‘Kangaroo Route’ from Europe to Australia and also offers a popular flight route to Los Angeles. The airline has two frequent flyer programs aimed at rewarding loyal passengers and student flyers, the Enrich and Grads programs.

How to Check in

Passengers on Malaysia Airlines flights are able to check-in in a number of different ways to suit your needs. Online check-in is available from 48 hours up to 90 minutes before scheduled departure times, while a convenient web-to-mobile check-in service allows someone else to check-in on your behalf and you will receive your boarding pass on your mobile device. A select number of airports including Kuala Lumpur International Airport also enable passengers to check-in at a FastCheck kiosk to skip the queues and print off your own boarding pass. Alternatively, you can always check-in the old fashioned way at a designated Malaysia Airlines counter at your chosen airport.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

All passengers on Malaysia Airlines flights are entitled to bring checked baggage, the specific allowances of which differ according to your cabin class and frequent flyer membership status. Economy Class travelers can bring two items of baggage no heavier than 30kg in total, while those in Business Class are able to bring two pieces up to 40kg in total. First Class passengers are entitled to even more at 50kg in total for two items of baggage. Passengers who are also members of the airline’s frequent flyer programs are entitled to additional baggage allowances. Platinum Enrich members can bring twice as much baggage as your fare allows, Gold members are permitted an additional 50% and Silver members can bring an added 5kg. Travelers that are a part of the Grad program are also entitled to an additional 10kg of checked baggage.


Malaysia Airlines flights offer standard Economy Class seats in addition to premium Business and First Class seating for those wishing to travel in luxury. Economy Class passengers are afforded spacious legroom with a seat pitch of 32-34 inches, while Business Class passengers can stretch out with a seat pitch anywhere from 45-74 inches depending on your flight. First Class passengers can relax in supreme comfort with 89 inches of legroom. During the booking process, passengers are able to select a preferred seat for a small fee or select a seat during the check-in process free of charge.

On Board Service

All flights serve up passengers a meal as part of the ticket price and there are chances for passengers to upgrade menus. Business and First Class travelers can enjoy the excellent dishes from a special menu of 25 gourmet meals, although you will need to pre-order these meals 24 hours in advance of your flight. Economy Passengers have the option to upgrade to the MHGourmet menu offering a fusion of Japanese and Western culinary classics.
